She was the world's sixth-oldest living person until her death in November 2013. Until her death she was the last known living British person to have been born before 1900.
Jones was born in Bermondsey, London, on 7 December 1899. She never married, but was engaged before her fiancé Albert Rees was killed in World War I at the age of nineteen.
On 14 November 2013, following a fall a few weeks previously, Jones died at St Thomas' Hospital in London. Her death was confirmed by MP Simon Hughes.
On Jones' death, Ethel Lang became the UK's oldest living person.
