About Grace Lutheran Church
Grace Lutheran Church is found about seven miles west of Ryegate. It sits right along U.S. Route 12. This church has a long and interesting history.
How the Church Started
The Grace Lutheran congregation in Barber officially started in 1911. However, the church building itself was constructed a bit later. It was built in 1917 by people from the Methodist faith.
Sharing the Building
For many years, both the Methodist and Lutheran groups used the wooden church building. They shared the space for their religious services. This was a common practice in smaller communities.
A New Home for Lutherans
In 1927, the Lutheran congregation bought the church building. After this, the Methodist group moved their services to Ryegate. The Grace Lutheran Church of Barber has continued to be used for religious services ever since. It is still an active church today.
