Grammer is a small, unincorporated community located in Rock Creek Township, Bartholomew County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Rock Creek Township.
A Look Back at Grammer's History
Grammer got its own post office in 1893. A post office is where you send and receive mail. This post office served the community for a long time, closing down in 1972. It is believed that Grammer was named after someone important from the railroad.
In the 1940s and 1950s, Grammer was a busy little place. It had two general stores where people could buy many different things. There was also a barber shop for haircuts and a grain elevator, which is a tall building used to store grain like corn or wheat.
The Grammer School was built in 1899. It taught students from first to eighth grade. In 1958, this school joined with Rock Creek School, meaning students from Grammer started going to the bigger Rock Creek School.
