Grand Plaza is a very tall apartment building in Chicago, Illinois, USA. It has 57 floors and was finished in 2003. When measured to the top of its decorative spires, it stands about 641 feet tall. Grand Plaza I is one of the tallest buildings in Chicago used only for homes. It contains 481 fancy apartment homes.
For a while, it was the tallest building in its ZIP Code. On July 1st, 2008, the building's ZIP Code changed. Even with the new ZIP Code, 60654, Grand Plaza I is still the tallest building in that small area.
The Grand Plaza Complex
The Grand Plaza complex actually has two main buildings. Grand Plaza I is the taller one.
The Residences at Grand Plaza
The second part of the complex is called The Residences at Grand Plaza. This building was also finished in 2003. It is shorter than Grand Plaza I, with 39 floors. Today, this building is a condominium, meaning people own their individual units.
Both Grand Plaza buildings were designed by the same architects. These firms were Loewenberg + Associates and OWP&P Architects. The two buildings also share a large base. This base has many shops, including a Jewel-Osco supermarket.
