Before May 24, 2015, Granera was part of a different comarca called Vallès Oriental. However, it then became part of the newer Moianès comarca. This change helped group towns with similar geography and history together.

Granera is a very small municipality. In 2018, only about 80 people lived there. This makes it one of the least populated towns in the region.
