Granville Charles Gomer Gordon, the 13th Marquess of Huntly, was born on February 4, 1944. He is a Scottish nobleman and holds the highest rank of Marquess in Scotland. Before he became the Marquess in 1987, he was known as the Earl of Aboyne.

He was a member of the House of Lords, which is part of the UK Parliament, from 1987 until 1999.

Early Life and Education

Granville Gordon is the son of Douglas Gordon, who was the 12th Marquess of Huntly. His mother was Mary Pamela Berry. He attended Gordonstoun School, a well-known school in Scotland.

His Role and Career

Granville Gordon became the Marquess of Huntly in 1987 after his father passed away. As a Marquess, he was able to speak in the House of Lords sometimes. However, a new law called the House of Lords Act 1999 changed things. This law meant that most hereditary members, like him, could no longer automatically be part of Parliament. So, he lost his seat in 1999.

He is also the leader, or Chief, of Clan Gordon. This means he is the head of a large and historic Scottish family group.

Family Life

Granville Gordon has been married twice.

His first marriage was in 1972 to Jane Elizabeth Angela Gibb. They had three children together:

  • Alastair Gordon, who is known as the Earl of Aboyne. He was born in 1973 and married Sophia Cunningham in 2004.
  • Lady Amy Jane Gordon, born in 1975.
  • Lady Lucy Yoskyl Gordon, born in 1979.

Granville and Jane divorced in 1990.

In 1991, Lord Huntly married Catheryn Milbourn. She is the daughter of Gay Kindersley. Together, they have one daughter:

  • Lady Rose Marie-Louise Gordon, born in 1993.

The main home for Lord and Lady Huntly is Aboyne Castle. This historic castle is located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
