Grape Creek is a small community located in Tom Green County, Texas, in the United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area the U.S. Census Bureau uses for statistics, but it doesn't have its own official city government. Grape Creek is also part of the larger San Angelo metropolitan area. In 2020, about 3,594 people lived there.

Where is Grape Creek?

Grape Creek is found in north-central Tom Green County. It is situated right on Grape Creek, a local waterway. The community is just north of U.S. Highway 87. It is also near the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway, which is a railroad line.

The area covers about 15.7 square miles (40.7 square kilometers). All of this land is dry land, with no large bodies of water. The exact location of Grape Creek is 31°34′54″N 100°32′51″W / 31.58167°N 100.54750°W / 31.58167; -100.54750.

A Look at Grape Creek's Past

The Grape Creek area has been settled for a long time. People lived here as early as 1858. At that time, the Butterfield Overland Mail set up a station here. This station was a stop for mail coaches traveling across the country. It was located on the east side of the east fork of Grape Creek.

The community of Grape Creek officially started before the year 1900. By 1901, it already had a school. This school had one teacher and taught 26 students. Education continued to grow in the area. By 1934, there were three elementary schools and even a high school.

Maps from 1936 showed that Grape Creek had a school, a church, and a cemetery nearby. There were also scattered homes. In the 1980s, the Grape Creek-Pulliam School was active. The area also became home to a new neighborhood called Grape Creek Community.

According to the 2020 United States census, there were 3,594 people living in Grape Creek. These people made up 1,163 households. Out of these households, 793 were families.

The community is made up of people from many different backgrounds. Most residents identify as White. There are also many people of Hispanic or Latino heritage. A smaller number of residents are Black, Native American, Asian, or Pacific Islander. Some people also identify with more than one race.

Students in Grape Creek attend public schools run by the Grape Creek Independent School District. This school district serves the community. The local high school is Grape Creek High School. Its sports teams are known as the Eagles.
