Gravelton is a small community in Indiana, a state in the United States. It is called an unincorporated community because it does not have its own local government like a city or town. Gravelton is special because it is located across two different counties: Elkhart County and Kosciusko County.
History of Gravelton
Gravelton was officially planned and laid out in 1876. This process is called "platting." It means that the streets and building lots were drawn on a map for the community.
The name "Gravelton" probably came from a nearby gravel pit. A gravel pit is a place where people dig up gravel, which is used for building roads and other things.
A post office was opened in Gravelton in 1876. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. However, the post office closed down in 1906.
