Haplotrema concavum, also known as the gray-footed lancetooth, is a type of land snail. It breathes air and is a predatory animal. This snail is a mollusk that belongs to the family Haplotrematidae.
Where This Snail Lives
This snail makes its home in the eastern part of North America. You can find it in the humid hardwood forests. Its range stretches from southern Canada and the Great Lakes region. It also lives south through the Midwestern U.S., including eastern Nebraska and Oklahoma. You can even find it in the Southeastern United States, like along the Gulf States. It has been seen along the Apalachicola River in western Florida and Georgia.
Haplotrema concavum likes to live on the forest floor. It often hides in piles of fallen leaves. You might also find it under rotting logs, where it stays safe and cool.
What This Snail Eats
The gray-footed lancetooth is a meat-eater, also called a carnivore. This means it hunts and eats other animals. It is known to be a predator of other snails. For example, it preys on a snail called Patera clarki nantahala.
Snail Health and Parasites
Like many animals, Haplotrema concavum can sometimes have parasites. Parasites are small organisms that live on or inside another animal and get their food from it. One known parasite of this snail is Parelaphostrongylus tenuis.
