The Milwaukee Road Passenger Depot is an old train station in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It was built in 1898 by a company called the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. People often called this company 'The Milwaukee Road'. This station helped businesses and people on the east side of the Fox River in Green Bay. Other train companies had their stations on the west side of the river.

A Look Back at the Depot

This old train station is part of the Packers Heritage Trail. It was mostly built using strong brick and stone. The building has a special design style called Flemish Renaissance Revival.

Unique Building Style

The architect who designed the depot was Charles Sumner Frost from Chicago, Illinois. This building style was quite unusual for train stations back then. Most stations were built in simpler styles like Craftsman or Romanesque. The depot is a single-story building shaped like a rectangle. One end was for passengers waiting for their trains, and the other end was used for storing freight (goods).

Changing Hands Over Time

The depot served Green Bay as a train station until 1957. At that time, the railroad company gave the building to the City of Green Bay. The Milwaukee Road built a new station closer to its train yards for passengers.

The city then rented the old depot to the Chamber of Commerce. Later, in 1986, the city sold the building to them completely. The depot was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. This was because it played an important role in the growth of railroads and businesses in Green Bay. Its unique architecture also made it special.

Modern Use of the Depot

In 2011, a company from Green Bay called Breakthrough Fuel fixed up the old station. They turned it into their main office. That same year, the company won the Green Bay Beautification Award for their great work on the building.
