Green Hills is a small borough located in Washington County, Pennsylvania, United States. A borough is a type of town with its own local government.

How Green Hills Was Formed

Green Hills became a borough in 1978. This happened because a local business owner wanted to sell certain items at his country club. However, the area was part of a "dry township." This meant that selling these items was not allowed there.

Voters in the larger township did not approve allowing these sales. So, the businessman worked to create a new, separate borough. This new borough was named Green Hills.

At the time of the 2020 census, only 20 people lived in Green Hills. This makes it one of the smallest boroughs in Pennsylvania. Only two other boroughs, S.N.P.J. and Centralia, had fewer residents.

After Green Hills was formed, Pennsylvania changed its laws. Now, any new borough must have at least 500 residents.
