Green Meadows is a small community in Indiana, a state in the United States. It is an "unincorporated community," which means it's a group of homes and businesses that are part of a larger area, like Wabash Township in Tippecanoe County. Green Meadows is also part of the bigger Lafayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's connected to the nearby city of Lafayette.

History of Green Meadows

How Green Meadows Started

Green Meadows began to be built in 1959. It was planned on a large piece of land, about 102 acres. This area was located near important roads like Indiana Highway 26. When it was first developed, Green Meadows was special. It had its own private systems for water and for handling wastewater. This was quite new for communities in Indiana at that time.

Water System Changes

In 1990, the state of Indiana looked into how the Green Meadows Utility company was running its water service. They wanted to make sure everything was working correctly. Later that same year, the state asked the company to make important improvements to the water service for the community. By 1992, a different company, the West Lafayette Water company, took over the water utility. This helped ensure the community had good water service.

Environmental Concerns

In the early 2000s, people in Green Meadows started to have some worries about the environment. There were reports about health concerns in the area. Some people thought these issues might be connected to waste materials that had been placed in landfills. These landfills were located near the Purdue University Thomas Horticultural Farm, which was close to Green Meadows' water source. These concerns led to discussions about environmental safety in the community.
