Greenleaf State Park is a fantastic place to visit in Oklahoma, located near the town of Braggs, Oklahoma. This park is built around the beautiful Greenleaf Lake, which covers about 930 acres. The lake itself was created in 1939.

Greenleaf State Park is one of Oklahoma's very first state parks. It's known for its amazing scenery and is a great spot for families to have fun and explore nature. You can find cabins, campgrounds, and lots of activities here.

Greenleaf Lake: A Beautiful Spot

Greenleaf Lake is a big part of the park's charm. The lake's surface is about 920 acres, and it has a shoreline that stretches for about 14 miles. This makes it a great place for boating and enjoying the water.

Park Accommodations: Where to Stay

Greenleaf State Park offers different ways to stay overnight, from cozy cabins to campsites for RVs and tents.

Cabins: Historic and Cozy Stays

The cabins and other buildings at Greenleaf State Park have a cool history! They were built in the 1930s by workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the Works Progress Administration (WPA), and even German prisoners-of-war. These original buildings are made from local stone and still look beautiful today.

Back then, the park had 14 cabins, each with one bedroom. They were about 350 square feet in size and included bathrooms, kitchens, heating, and air conditioning. They even came with dishes, linens, and satellite TV. Some cabins even had a fireplace, perfect for chilly evenings!

In 1994, a special cabin called "Cabin on the Lake" was added. This cabin was designed to be easy to use for campers with physical disabilities. It was donated by a group called Telephone Pioneers of America and was one of the first cabins of its kind in the whole country.

Campgrounds: Fun Under the Stars

If you love camping, Greenleaf State Park has plenty of options! There are 158 campsites in total. Some are "Full Modern" with all the hookups for RVs, while others are "Semi-modern" with some hookups. There are also "Primitive" tent sites for those who want a more basic camping experience without electricity or water hookups.

All campers can use the park's shared facilities. These include a community building, picnic pavilions, and a laundry center. You can also grab a bite at the seasonal fast food grill.

Activities: What to Do at Greenleaf Park

There's so much to do at Greenleaf State Park!

  • Miniature Golf: Challenge your friends or family to a game on the 18-hole miniature golf course.
  • Swimming: Take a dip in the swimming pool or enjoy the swim beach on the lake.
  • Fishing: There's a heated fishing dock, so you can fish even when it's cool outside. There's also a special kids' pond where children 16 and under can fish for free without a permit!
  • Hiking: An 18-mile hiking trail starts in the park and goes around Greenleaf Lake and into the nearby Camp Gruber land.
  • Sports: Play horseshoes, volleyball, or basketball on the park's courts.
  • Nature Programs: The park's naturalist offers fun programs like astronomy lessons, campfire stories, and hay wagon rides. You can also join arts and crafts sessions, storytelling, and nature hikes.
  • Boating: You can enjoy boating on Greenleaf Lake, but remember that jet skis and wave runners are not allowed.
  • Wildlife Viewing: Keep an eye out for local animals and birds!

Park Fees

To help keep the park in great shape, there is a small entrance fee for vehicles. This fee helps fund improvements and maintenance. For Oklahoma residents, the daily fee is $8 per vehicle, and for out-of-state visitors, it's $10. Good news: honorably discharged veterans and Oklahoma residents aged 62 and older (and their spouses) don't have to pay the fee. You can also buy passes for multiple days or an annual pass to visit this and other state parks.
