Park History and Creation

Greenwell State Park started in 1971. A brother and sister, John Phillip Greenwell, Jr. and Mary Wallace Greenwell, owned a farm. They decided to give their 167-acre farm to the state. They wanted it to become a public park for everyone to enjoy.

Later, the state bought more land next to it. This was the Bond property, which was 430 acres. Adding this land made the park much bigger. This is how Greenwell State Park became the large, beautiful area it is today.
