Nestor Gregory Carter, known professionally as Greg Carter, is a talented filmmaker from Texas. He has produced many movies and documentaries, directing nine of them and writing six. Greg Carter grew up in Houston. In 2006, he was honored by being inducted into the Texas Filmmakers' Hall of Fame for his contributions to film and his community.

Early Life and Education
Greg Carter first started learning about film while studying Engineering at Texas A&M University. There, he had the chance to learn from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Charles Gordone. After finishing his degree, Carter continued his studies at Rice University's Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts. He is the brother of the well-known rapper Viper, who even acted in Greg's first movie, Fifth Ward.
Greg Carter's Film Career
Carter made his very first feature film, Fifth Ward, in 1997. He also helped produce the 2012 movie Dysfunctional Friends. He was the producer for The Concerto, a film that features actors like Janel Parrish from Pretty Little Liars and Jackson Rathbone from Twilight.
One of Carter's movies he directed is called Lap Dance. This film is based on real events from his life and his girlfriend, actress Junie Hoang, before they moved to Los Angeles in 2005. Carter wrote, directed, and co-produced this film. He also worked on the documentary Michael Vick: Giving Back.
Teaching Filmmaking
Besides making movies, Greg Carter sometimes teaches filmmaking. He has worked with organizations like the SWAMP to teach young people who might not have many opportunities. In 1992, he started a program called Fifth Ward Young Filmmakers. He and producer Elizabeth Avellán also taught young filmmakers at the MFAH.
Awards and Recognition
Greg Carter has received several awards for his films.
- For his film Fifth Ward, he won Best Director and Best Film at the 30th Parallel Film Festival.
- His movie Resurrection: The J.R. Richard Story won Best Feature at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.
- Waters Rising was awarded Best Docudrama at the San Diego Black Film Festival.
