Greg Forristall (born February 15, 1950, died May 10, 2017) was an American politician. He served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2007 until he passed away in 2017. During his time there, he helped make laws for the state of Iowa.

In the Iowa House, Greg Forristall worked on important groups called committees. These committees focused on topics like human resources, transportation, and money matters. He also led the Labor committee.

Early Life and Learning

Greg Forristall was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He grew up and lived near Macedonia. After high school in 1968, he studied computer science and international marketing. He went to Iowa Western Community College. Later, he earned two degrees in music from the University of Iowa. He got his bachelor's degree in 1972 and his master's in 1973.

His Work and Public Service

Forristall worked as a farmer for 25 years. He also worked in financial services and information technology.

He was very active in his community. He was part of groups like the Council Bluffs Sister Cities and Farm Bureau. He also served on the Iowa Corn Promotion Board. He was a member of the United States Grain Council. Forristall also helped guide education in Iowa. He served on the Iowa State Board of Education and the Iowa Community College Council. He was also a founder of the Grist Mill Fine Arts Council.

He led the Education Task Force for the American Legislative Exchange Council. He was also on the executive committee of the Midwest Higher Education Compact. Forristall represented Iowa at national meetings for education foundations.

Greg Forristall was first elected to the Iowa House in November 2006. He represented District 98. In 2010, the district maps changed. He then began representing District 22.

Family Life

Greg Forristall lived in Macedonia, Iowa with his wife, Carol. They were married in 1978. Carol taught music in Iowa public schools for 35 years.

Forristall passed away on May 10, 2017, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was 67 years old and died from cancer. After his death, his wife Carol tried to take his place in the Iowa House. However, she did not win the Republican nomination. Jon Jacobsen was chosen instead.
