Gregorio Salvador Caja (born July 11, 1927 – died December 26, 2020) was an important Spanish linguist. A linguist is a person who studies language and how it works. Gregorio Salvador was especially good at something called structural semantics. This is about how words get their meaning and how they connect to each other in a language.
He was born in Cúllar, a town in Granada, Spain. He went to the University of Granada and later the Complutense University of Madrid. He was a very important student of another famous linguist, Manuel Alvar. Gregorio Salvador also wrote articles for a well-known Spanish newspaper called ABC.
A Member of the Royal Spanish Academy
Gregorio Salvador was chosen to be a member of the Real Academia Española. This is a very important group in Spain that looks after the Spanish language. They make sure the language is used correctly and keep track of new words.
He was elected to join the Academy on June 5, 1986. He officially took his place there on February 15, 1987. He stayed a member until he passed away.
Later Life and Passing
Gregorio Salvador lived a long life dedicated to studying language. He died in Madrid on December 26, 2020, when he was 93 years old. His work helped many people understand more about the Spanish language.
