Gregory W. Fowler is an important American leader in education. He is currently the president of the University of Maryland Global Campus. Before this, he was the president of the Global Campus at Southern New Hampshire University.

Early Life and Learning
Growing Up in Georgia
Gregory Fowler grew up in Albany, Georgia. He had seven brothers and sisters. His mother was a teacher in high school. Many other family members were ministers.
College and Advanced Degrees
After finishing Morehouse College, Fowler worked for four years. He was an outreach and media specialist at the National Endowment for the Humanities. During this time, he earned a master's degree in English. He studied at George Mason University.
Later, he taught literature and American studies. He was a lecturer and assistant professor at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. He also earned a Ph.D. in English and American studies. His special project was about Mark Twain. He completed this at the University at Buffalo.
Fowler also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA). This degree was from Western Governors University in Utah. He also attended special leadership programs at Harvard University. He was a special scholar at Duke University. He received two Fulbright awards. These awards allowed him to study abroad. He went to Berlin, Germany, in 2002. He also visited Belgium and Germany in 2006.
Career in Education
Leading Universities
Gregory Fowler has held many important roles in education. He was an associate provost at Western Governors University. A provost is a senior academic officer. He also served as the chief academic officer at Hesser College. This means he was in charge of all academic programs.
President of Global Campuses
Fowler worked at Southern New Hampshire University for nine years. He held different leadership positions there. In September 2018, he became the president of its global campus.
On January 4, 2021, Fowler became the president of the University of Maryland Global Campus. He took over from Javier Miyares. He is the first non-interim African American president of this university. This means he was chosen for the job permanently.
