Griswold, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Griswold is a small, quiet place located in the southeast corner of Oregon County, Missouri, deep within the Ozarks region of southern Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and perhaps a few businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

A Look Back: Griswold's History

Griswold has a bit of history, even though it's a small community! A post office was opened there in 1887. This was a big deal because it meant people living in the area could easily send and receive letters and packages. The post office stayed open for about 20 years, finally closing its doors in 1907. The community itself was named after a local person named James Griswold, who was a merchant, meaning he bought and sold goods in the area.
