History of Groesbeck

Groesbeck was first known as West Union. In 1857, when the community wanted to open a post office, they found out there was already another West Union in Ohio. So, they had to pick a new name.

The community decided to name it after William S. Groesbeck. He was a United States Representative from Ohio. This is how Groesbeck got its current name.

By 1894, Groesbeck had grown a bit. It was home to two hotels, a blacksmith shop, and a church.
