The Guadaíra is a river located in southern Spain. It flows through the province of Seville in a region called Andalusia. The name "Guadaíra" comes from the Arabic word wadi. This word means "river valley" or "riverbed". You might notice the "guad" part in other Spanish river names, like the much larger Guadalquivir River.
Where Does the Guadaíra River Flow?
The Guadaíra River starts in the lands east and southeast of Alcalá de Guadaíra. This town is part of the Seville metropolitan area. The river then flows right through Alcalá de Guadaíra. After passing the town, it continues its journey. Finally, it joins the larger Guadalquivir River to the south of Seville. The Guadaíra is about 110 kilometers (68 miles) long.
A Home for Wildlife
Even though the river has faced some challenges, it is still a home for many animals. Its banks are covered with lots of trees and plants. This thick vegetation provides shelter and food for different kinds of wildlife.
On the southern side of the river, there is a beautiful area called Oromana. It's a large woodland filled with stone pine trees. This spot is very popular for both local people and tourists. They love to visit Oromana for weekend outings and special holidays. It's a great place to enjoy nature and relax by the river.
Protecting the River
For many years, the Guadaíra River has had pollution problems. Waste from things like olive processing was put directly into the river. This caused the water to become dirty. Sometimes, you could see a lot of foam on the water. There was also an unpleasant smell, especially in winter.
However, people are working to make the river cleaner. Protecting rivers like the Guadaíra is important. Clean rivers help keep the environment healthy. They also provide safe homes for wildlife. Efforts are being made to improve the river's condition for everyone.
