Guarizama is a small area in Honduras. It is a type of local government area called a municipality. You can find it in the Olancho region of Honduras.
The name Guarizama comes from an older word, Quanhilzamatil. This word means "tight amate tree." It's likely that this type of tree grew a lot in the area long ago.
History of Guarizama
Guarizama has been around for a long time. In 1887, it was listed as a village within the Manto area.
Later, in 1901, Guarizama became its own official municipality. This means it gained more control over its own local government.
Villages in Guarizama
The municipality of Guarizama includes five different villages. These are smaller communities that are part of the larger Guarizama area.
The villages are:
- Guarizama (which is also the main town)
- El Zapotal
- La Carta
- El Rodeo
- Trinidad
People of Guarizama
In 2013, a count of the people living in Guarizama was done. At that time, about 7,769 people lived there.
Most of the people, about 98%, were Mestizo. This means they have a mix of European and Indigenous backgrounds. A smaller number of people were White or Black. There were also a few Indigenous people.
