Guida Maria (born January 23, 1950 – died January 2, 2018) was a famous actress from Portugal. She acted for 60 years! You could see her on stage in plays, in movies, and on TV shows.

Early Life
Guida Maria was born in 1950 in Lisbon, Portugal. Her dad, Luis Cerqueira, was also an actor. He helped her get started in acting.
When she was just seven years old, Guida Maria was in a play called Fire of Vista. At age 12, she played Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. This play was very popular. It toured all over Portugal for more than a year!
Acting Career
Theatre Plays
Guida Maria acted in over 40 plays during her career. From 1978 to 1998, she was part of the National Theater Dona Maria II. This is a very important theatre in Portugal.
In 1980, when she was 30, Guida Maria got a special scholarship. She went to New York to study acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She took two years off from her work in Portugal to do this.
After leaving the National Theater in 1998, Guida Maria started putting on her own plays. She found a director, Celso Cleto, and a place to perform, the Estoril Casino. Her first play there opened in October 2000. It was a big success and ran for many months. She even performed it again in 2002 and 2009.
In 2004, she played the main character in a play called Zelda. This play was about the life of Zelda Fitzgerald. Guida Maria had bought the rights to this play herself.
Movies
In 1973, Guida Maria starred in the movie The Vows. This film was shown at the famous Cannes Film Festival. She also appeared in other movies directed by António de Macedo, such as The Wisdom Principle (1975) and The Seven Headed Head (1978). Other films she acted in include The Baron of Altamira (1986) and Serenity (1987).
Television Shows
Guida Maria was in many TV films and series. Some of these include A Única Mulher (which means The Only Woman) and the Brazilian show O Bem-Amado.
Books
In 2009, Guida Maria wrote a book about her own life. It was called Guida Maria – Uma Vida.
Personal Life
Guida Maria had two children. Her son, Pedro Daniel, was born when she was 17. Her daughter, Julie Sergeant, was born when she was 20. Julie also became an actress. In 1969, Guida Maria married a musician named Mike Sergeant. They later divorced in 1972.
Later Years and Death
In December 2017, Guida Maria became ill and went to the hospital in Lisbon. She passed away there on January 2, 2018, at the age of 67.
