Guillem Seguer facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Guillem Seguer was a sculptor and architect from Catalonia, a region in Spain. He was active in the mid-1300s, which means he worked around the middle of the 14th century.

One of his first known projects was in 1342. He made a statue of the Virgin Mary with baby Jesus for a church in Vinaixa. Sadly, this statue was lost during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). However, another statue by Seguer, also of the Virgin Mary with baby Jesus, can be seen today at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, United States. Another one of his statues, called "Mary Magdalene," which was in Montblanc, also disappeared around 1936.

Guillem Seguer's Major Works

Guillem Seguer was also in charge of building the La Seu Vella Cathedral in Lleida. He worked as a sculptor there too. He created a tomb for Bishop Ponç de Vilamur, but only parts of it are left today. He also helped with work at the Monastery of Santa María de Vallbona.
