Gunhild Rosén was a talented dancer who became a leader in the world of ballet. She started her journey as a student and worked her way up to become a ballet master. This meant she was in charge of training dancers and putting on ballet shows.

Her Early Life and Training

Gunhild Rosén was born in a city called Norrköping in Sweden. From a young age, she showed a passion for dance. She was lucky enough to study with a well-known teacher named Anders Selinder. He helped her develop her skills and prepare for a career in ballet.

Rising Through the Ranks

Gunhild's career at the Ballet of the Royal Swedish Opera began in 1872. She started as a "figurant dancer," which means she was part of the group of dancers in the background. She worked very hard and quickly moved up!

  • In 1875, she became a "second dancer."
  • By 1881, she was a "premier dancer," which is one of the main and most important dancers in the company.

Her leadership skills were also recognized. In 1894, she became a "vice ballet master." Then, from 1922 to 1926, she held the important position of "ballet master."

Her Creative Works and Performances

Gunhild Rosén didn't just dance; she also created ballets! She composed a ballet called "I Ungern," which means "In Hungary." She also created the ballet parts for an opera called "Brudköpet" ("Bride purchase").

She traveled to perform in other countries too. She danced in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1878, 1879, and 1890. She also performed in Oslo, Norway, in 1880, 1881, and 1890.
