Guraleus alucinans is a type of sea snail. It's a small mollusk that lives in the ocean. This snail belongs to a group called gastropods and is part of the family called Mangeliidae.
About the Guraleus alucinans Snail
This snail has a shell that can grow up to 12 millimeters (about half an inch) long. Its shell is usually about 3 millimeters wide.
The shell has a short, spindle-like shape. It has 7 to 8 whorls, which are the turns or spirals of the shell. These whorls have slightly rounded angles.
You can often tell this snail apart by its thick, rounded, and straight ribs on the shell. It also has spiral grooves that you can see more or less clearly.
The color of the shell can vary a lot. Some shells are almost completely white. Others have many sienna brown spiral lines. These lines go from the angle of the whorl down to the bottom edge. They cross over the ribs but are broken up in the spaces between them. There is usually a brown line just above the angle of the whorl.
Where This Snail Lives
This sea snail is found only in Australia. This means it is endemic to Australia. You can find it living off the coasts of South Australia and New South Wales.
