Guraleus ornatus is a type of small sea snail. It is a marine mollusk that belongs to a group called gastropods. These snails live in the ocean and are part of the family called Mangeliidae.
What Does It Look Like?
The shell of the Guraleus ornatus is quite small. It can grow up to 8.5 millimeters long. That's less than one centimeter! The shell is also about 3 millimeters wide.
A scientist named Sowerby III first described this snail in 1896. He noticed that its shell had a longer spire. The spire is the pointy, twisted top part of the snail's shell. He also saw that the shell had special red spots on its ribs. The ribs are the raised lines or ridges you can see on the shell's surface.
Where Does It Live?
This sea snail is endemic to Australia. This means it is found only in Australia and nowhere else in the world. You can find Guraleus ornatus living off the coast of South Australia.
