About Gustavo Bebianno
Early Life and Education
Gustavo Bebianno started studying Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. But he left his studies in 1990. That same year, he moved to Miami in the United States. There, he taught Brazilian jiu-jitsu because he had earned a black belt in the sport.
Four years later, in 1994, he returned to Rio de Janeiro. He then finished his law studies.
Working with President Bolsonaro
In 2014, Gustavo Bebianno offered his help as a lawyer to Jair Bolsonaro. At that time, Bolsonaro was a federal deputy, which is like a member of parliament. Bolsonaro politely said no at first. In March 2018, Bebianno joined the Social Liberal Party (PSL). He was chosen as the party's National Deputy Chairman. Later, he became the temporary National Chairman. This happened when Luciano Bivar, the party's founder and president, took a break.
On 28 October 2018, Bebianno stepped down as party Chairman. Luciano Bivar then took back his role as leader.
Becoming a Government Official
On 21 November 2018, Gustavo Bebianno received an important job. This was almost a month after Bolsonaro won the 2018 election. Bebianno was announced as the Secretary-General of the Presidency. This is a high-level position in the government.
However, on 15 February 2019, President Bolsonaro decided to remove Bebianno from his job. This decision came after a disagreement about how party funds were used during the 2018 election. Bebianno stated that he had official documents for all the money he requested.
