Guy Pelham Benson, born on March 7, 1985, is an American journalist and political commentator. He shares his opinions on current events and politics. He works for Fox News and is the political editor for Townhall.com. Guy Benson also hosts a conservative talk radio show. In 2021, he was a Fellow at the Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service.
Early Life and Education
Guy Benson was born in Saudi Arabia. He spent much of his early life living in different countries. Later, he grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey. There he went to middle school and Ridgewood High School. During high school, he was known for broadcasting sports on local TV.
While studying for his bachelor's degree at Northwestern University, Benson worked at the campus radio station, WNUR. He broadcasted sporting events and hosted a political talk show. He also interned at Fox News for two summers. He helped with their show Hannity & Colmes. Later, he assisted Fox News with their coverage of the 2004 Republican National Convention. Benson also reported for an NPR station in South Florida. From 2003 to 2006, he broadcasted summer baseball games for the Chatham A's in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
His Career in Media
After graduating with honors from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 2007, Benson started his career. He worked as a producer for The Sandy Rios Show. This was a local radio show in Chicago.
In 2010, Benson became the political editor at Townhall.com. He had been writing columns for them since 2008. He also writes for Townhall's sister site, Hot Air. He used to write for Andrew Breitbart's "Big" sites and National Review Online's Media Blog. He is a regular guest and fills in as a host on The Hugh Hewitt Show.
In 2013, Benson joined Fox News as a contributor. He now hosts The Guy Benson Show on Fox News Radio. He is also a main guest and substitute host on many Fox News and Fox Business programs. These include Fox & Friends, America's Newsroom, Outnumbered, The Story with Martha MacCallum, Special Report, Gutfeld!, The Big Weekend Show, Media Buzz, Fox News Sunday, The Evening Edit and The Bottom Line.
Key Moments in His Career
In April 2008, Benson found a video from a 2007 reunion. It was of the Weathermen, a group from the 1960s and 70s. The video showed two members, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, talking about their past actions. This video became national news. This was because Barack Obama was criticized for knowing Ayers and Dohrn during the 2008 presidential campaign.
Benson also gained national attention during the 2008 presidential race for two other reasons. In August, the Obama campaign criticized WGN radio. This was for letting Stanley Kurtz appear on their station. Benson was in the studio during that interview and shared his experience. Then, two weeks before Election Day, Benson worked with Mary Katharine Ham and Ed Morrissey. They wrote "The Comprehensive Argument Against Barack Obama," which was published on Hot Air.
