Gwynn ap Gwilym was born in Bangor, Wales. He grew up in a town called Machynlleth in north-west Wales.
Early Life and Education
Gwynn ap Gwilym went to several universities to study. He attended the University of Wales and University College, Galway (UCG) in Ireland. He also studied at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He earned an MA degree from his studies.
Career and Achievements
Gwynn ap Gwilym was an Anglican clergyman. This means he was a priest in the Church of England in Wales. He also taught at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. He was a parish rector for several churches in the Upper Dyfi Valley. These churches included Mallwyd, Cemaes Bay, Llanymawddwy, Darowen, and Llanbrynmair. He also taught part-time at the former United Theological College Aberystwyth.
Gwynn ap Gwilym won important awards for his writing. In 1983, he received the Welsh Arts Council prize. This was for his book of poems called "Grassholm". In 1986, he was named Poet Chair at the National Eisteddfod in Fishguard. This honor was for his special poem, an ode called "The Cloud".
Gwynn ap Gwilym passed away on July 31, 2016, due to cancer.
