Héctor Benjamín Alterio Onorato (born September 21, 1929 – died December 13, 2025) was a famous actor. He starred in many plays, movies, and TV shows. People in both Argentina and Spain knew him very well.

Early Life and Theater Work

Héctor Alterio was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on September 21, 1929. His parents came from Italy.

He started acting on stage in 1948. His first play was called Cómo suicidarse en primavera. After drama school, he helped start a theater group. It was called Nuevo Teatro (New Theatre) in 1950. He worked with this group until 1968. They brought new and exciting ideas to Argentine theater.

Becoming a Film Star

Héctor also became a movie actor. His first film was Todo sol es amargo in 1965. He acted in many important Argentine movies during the 1970s. One famous film was La Patagonia rebelde. This movie won a special award called the Silver Bear at a big film festival in Berlin. He also lent his voice to a film called Ya es tiempo de violencia in 1969.

Moving to Spain and Continued Success

In 1975, while he was in Spain, times became difficult in Argentina. For his safety, Héctor decided to stay in Spain. He lived there for many years and became a Spanish citizen.

He then started acting in Spanish movies. He won the Best Actor award at the Donostia-San Sebastián International Film Festival for A un dios desconocido (1977). He also won another Best Actor award for his role in El Nido (1980).

Return to Argentina and Lifetime Achievements

When Argentina became a democracy again in 1982, Héctor worked in movies made in both Argentina and Spain. In 2004, he received a special Goya Award. This award honored all the amazing work he did throughout his long career. Héctor Alterio passed away in Madrid on December 13, 2025. He was 96 years old.
