Héctor Benjamín Alterio Onorato (born September 21, 1929) is a famous Argentine actor. He has starred in many plays, movies, and TV shows. He is well-known in both Argentina and Spain.

Héctor Alterio's Early Life and Career

Héctor Benjamín Alterio Onorato was born in Chacarita, Buenos Aires, Argentina. His parents came from Carpinone, Italy. After finishing drama school, Héctor started his own theater group. It was called Nuevo Teatro (New Theatre) in 1950. He worked with this group until 1968. His work helped change the theater scene in Argentina during the 1960s.

Héctor Alterio's First Movies

Héctor also began working in Argentine movies. His first film was Todo sol es amargo (Every sun is bitter) in 1965. He then acted in many important Argentine films in the 1970s. One of these was La Patagonia rebelde (The Rebel Patagonia). This movie won a special award called the Silver Bear at a film festival in Berlin.

Living in Exile: A New Chapter

In 1975, while Héctor was in Spain, he faced threats from a group in Argentina. Because of this danger, he decided not to go back home. He stayed in Spain and later became a Spanish citizen.

After moving to Spain, Héctor started working in Spanish films. He starred in A un dios desconocido (1977). For this role, he won the Best Actor award at the Donostia-San Sebastián International Film Festival. He also acted in El Nido (1980). For this film, he won another Best Actor award in 1983.

When democracy returned to Argentina in 1982, Héctor began working in films from both countries. He also worked on movies made by both Argentina and Spain together. In 2004, he received a special Goya Award. This award honored all his amazing work throughout his life.
