Early Life and Education
Hüsamettin Cindoruk was born in İzmir, Turkey, on June 8, 1933. His family had roots in Crete. He grew up and studied in Ankara. He went to the well-known TED Ankara College. Later, he studied law at Ankara University. He finished his law degree in 1955. After university, he began his career as a lawyer.
Professional Career Highlights
Hüsamettin Cindoruk became well-known when he was quite young. In 1960, there was a big change in the government. He joined a team of lawyers. This team worked to defend former Prime Minister Adnan Menderes. They also defended other important political figures. Their efforts were widely respected across Turkey.
Political Journey and Leadership
After a period of changes in government, Hüsamettin Cindoruk joined the Justice Party. Later, in 1985, he became a key leader in the True Path Party. This party continued the ideas of the Justice Party. He helped lead the party when its main leader, Süleyman Demirel, was temporarily out of politics.
When Süleyman Demirel returned, Cindoruk passed the party leadership back to him. In 1991, the Democratic Party won elections. Cindoruk then became the 17th Speaker of the Turkish Parliament. He held this important role from 1991 to 1995.
In 1993, the President of Turkey, Turgut Özal, passed away. Süleyman Demirel was then elected as the new President. Because of this, Hüsamettin Cindoruk briefly served as the acting President of Turkey.
After his time as Speaker, Cindoruk started his own political group. This was the Party for a Democratic Turkey (DTP). This party did not win many votes in the 1996 elections. However, Cindoruk and his party were part of the government for a time. After the 1999 elections, he stepped down from party leadership. He then took a break from active politics.
Years later, in 2009, he returned to lead the Democrat Party. He also helped unite the Democrat Party with the Motherland Party.

Hüsamettin Cindoruk was married and had three children. He passed away on April 11, 2026, at the age of 92.
