Hœnir and the Æsir-Vanir War
Hœnir was involved in a big war between the Æsir gods and another group of gods called the Vanir. To make peace, Hœnir and another wise god named Mímir were sent as hostages to the Vanir. This was a way to show trust and end the fighting.
The Hostage Exchange
During his time with the Vanir, Hœnir often looked to Mímir for advice. Mímir was very knowledgeable and helped Hœnir answer questions. However, the Vanir misunderstood this. They thought Hœnir was not making his own decisions and felt tricked by the Æsir. Because of this misunderstanding, Mímir sadly lost his life. This was a difficult time, but Hœnir survived.
Hœnir's Role in Ragnarök
Hœnir is one of the few gods who are said to survive Ragnarök. Ragnarök is a series of major events in Norse mythology, including a great battle that leads to the end of the world as it is known.
