Æsir facts for kids
The Æsir are the main group of gods and goddesses in Norse mythology. Think of them as a powerful family of deities! Famous Æsir gods include Odin, Frigg, Thor, and Baldr. They live in a special place called Asgard, which is high up in the world tree, Yggdrasil.
There's another group of gods called the Vanir. After a big war between the Æsir and Vanir, they decided to join forces. This made them one big family of gods! The Vanir originally came from a place called Vanaheimr. Important Vanir gods are Njörðr and his children, Freyr and Freyja. The Æsir gods were often linked to power and war. The Vanir, on the other hand, were connected to nature and making things grow (fertility).

Understanding the Gods of Norse Mythology
The stories about the Æsir and Vanir are a really interesting part of Norse mythology. Unlike some other old myths, where younger gods replace older ones (like the Greek Titans and Olympians), the Æsir and Vanir were seen as living at the same time.
These two groups of gods fought battles, made peace agreements, and even traded important people. For example, Freyr and Freyja were said to be traded as part of a peace deal. Some people think these stories might show how different groups of people (clans) in Norse times used to interact.
The Æsir gods did not get old. They stayed young by eating special apples from the goddess Iðunn. Even though they didn't age, they could still be killed. It was believed that most of them would die during a huge event called Ragnarök, which is like the end of the world in Norse myths.
