He served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Gundlupet area in Karnataka. He was elected five times in a row, showing how much people trusted him. He was also a minister in the state government when he passed away in 2017.
His Early Life and Education
Mahadeva Prasad was born on August 5, 1958. He studied hard and earned a master's degree in political science. This means he learned a lot about how governments work and how people are governed.
His Journey in Politics
Mahadeva Prasad tried to become an MLA twice before he finally won. His first win was in 1994. He represented the Janata Dal party at that time. He won the election for the Gundlupet area by a large number of votes.
After his first win, the Janata Dal party formed the state government. Later, the party split into different groups. Mahadeva Prasad joined the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) group. He won the election again in 1999 as a member of JD(U).
Then, he switched to another group called Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)). He won the election for the third time in 2004. During this time, he became a minister in the state government. He was in charge of the Ministry of Food and Civil Supplies. Later, he also became the Minister for Kannada and Culture.
Mahadeva Prasad then joined the Indian National Congress party. He won the Gundlupet seat again in 2008. This was special because he had won the same seat four times, each time representing a different political party! He won again in 2013, making it his fifth straight win. In his last term, he was the state minister for Cooperation and Sugar. He also looked after the Chamarajanagar district.
His Family and Final Days
Mahadeva Prasad was married to Dr. M.C. Mohan Kumari, also known as Gita. They had a son named H. M. Ganesh Prasad.
Mahadeva Prasad had some heart problems. He had heart surgery in 2005. In 2015, he had another procedure called angioplasty because of chest pains.
Sadly, Mahadeva Prasad passed away on January 3, 2017, after having a heart attack. He was found at a resort near Chikkamangalur. His funeral was held in his home village of Halahalli.
