HMS Carnatic was a powerful warship of the Royal Navy. It was a '74-gun third-rate ship of the line,' meaning it carried 74 cannons and was a very important type of ship for its time. It was launched on 21 January 1783 at Deptford Wharf in England.
What's interesting is that the British East India Company paid for this ship to be built. They then gave it to the Royal Navy. On 17 May 1815, the ship's name was changed to HMS Captain. After many years of service, Captain was taken apart, or 'broken up,' on 30 September 1825.
