Life at Sea
Imperieuse began its active service in 1854. It sailed to the Baltic Sea to take part in the Crimean War. This was a big conflict involving several countries.
Getting Stuck and Getting Help
On April 1, 1855, something tricky happened. Imperieuse accidentally ran aground near the Røsnæs lighthouse in Denmark. This means it got stuck on the seabed. Luckily, another ship, HMS Euryalus, came to help. Together, they managed to get Imperieuse free the very next day.
Facing the Enemy
Later that year, in August 1855, Imperieuse was part of a fleet near a Russian naval base called Kronstadt. Captain Watson was in charge of the ship. Along with other ships like James Watt, Centaur, and Bulldog, they had a small battle. They fired at the port's defenses and enemy gunboats near the Tolbukhin lighthouse.
Adventures in Asia
In January 1860, Imperieuse sailed all the way to Hong Kong. This was part of its duty on the East Indies and China Station. This area was important for the British Navy.
Off the Coast of China
For the next two years, the ship stayed in Asia. It operated off the coast of China during the Second Opium War. This was another conflict where the ship played a role.
Another Close Call
In August 1861, Imperieuse had another mishap. It ran aground on a rock about 140 miles (225 km) from Jeddo (which is now Tokyo). Just like before, another ship came to the rescue. HMS Ringdove helped pull Imperieuse off the rock three days later.
End of Service
After many years of service and adventures around the world, HMS Imperieuse was sold in March 1867.
