HY is a Japanese rock band that started in the year 2000. Five high school friends from Okinawa formed the group. Their name, HY, comes from the first letters of their hometown, Higashi Yakena.
The band became very popular by playing music on the streets. Their first album, called Departure, was only sold in Okinawa. It sold out almost immediately because so many people wanted it! In 2002, HY even performed live with the famous American band, Linkin Park.
