The History of Hailstone

The town was first known as Elkhorn. It was settled in 1864 by pioneers like William Paret Hailstone and Ann Davis Hailstone, along with other families. People in Hailstone worked in different jobs to make a living. They were involved in mining, digging for valuable minerals from the ground. They also did ranching, which means raising animals like cattle. Another important job was logging, cutting down trees for wood.
