Hainesburg is a small, unincorporated community. It is also a census-designated place (CDP). This means the United States Census Bureau defines it as a specific area for counting people. Hainesburg is located in Knowlton Township, within Warren County, in the state of New Jersey.
Even though the community has been around for over 100 years, it was officially named a CDP for the first time in the 2010 United States Census. In 2010, 91 people lived there. By 2020, the population had grown to 422 people.

History of Hainesburg
Hainesburg is situated right next to the Paulins Kill waterway. A long time ago, even before the American Revolution, a stone grist mill was built there. A grist mill is a place where grain is ground into flour. Sadly, this mill was destroyed by a fire in 1908.
In 1840, a tannery was built by Jacob Hibler. A tannery is a factory where animal hides are processed to make leather.
The Beck brothers bought land in Hainesburg in 1843. They divided this land into smaller plots for people to build homes. The town was first known by a different name, "Sodom." However, the first post office in the area was named "Hainesburg." This name was chosen to honor John Haines. He made a very important donation to a school in the community.
Later, in 1881, George Adams built a saw mill in Hainesburg. A saw mill is where logs are cut into lumber. Hainesburg also had a station for the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway. This railway helped connect the community to other places.
