Harold Boyton Fryar (born June 8, 1927 – died June 25, 2017) was an American actor and TV star. He became famous as Harlow Hickenlooper. This was the host of The Three Stooges Show on Channel 6 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Hal Fryar's TV Career

Fryar started his career in radio and TV when he was a teenager. He worked as an announcer and writer in Indianapolis, Indiana in the 1940s. By the 1960s, he was hosting shows for young people in Ohio.

Hosting The Three Stooges Show

From 1960 to 1972, Fryar hosted a children's TV show in Indianapolis. The show featured old short films of The Three Stooges. Fryar played a character named "Harlow Hickenlooper."

He was one of three hosts, along with Curley Myers and Captain Star. They would sing songs and perform funny skits for a live audience of kids.

Harlow Hickenlooper's Personality

Harlow Hickenlooper was a character who always had bad luck. No matter how hard he tried, things often went wrong for him. He would often end up with a cream pie in his face!

Fryar loved the silly, physical comedy of the Stooges. He hosted other children's shows for over 40 years on local TV.

Acting in a Movie

In 1965, Fryar acted in a Three Stooges movie called The Outlaws Is Coming. He played the part of Johnny Ringo.

When the movie came out, some English teachers complained about the title. They said "Outlaws Is Coming" was grammatically incorrect. Younger kids sometimes didn't recognize Fryar in his outlaw makeup. But older kids and their parents enjoyed the comedy.

Hall of Fame

On October 2, 2008, Hal Fryar was honored. He was added to the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame. This recognized his long and important career in television.

Hal Fryar's Passing

Hal Fryar passed away on June 25, 2017, in Bradenton, Florida. He was 90 years old. He was survived by his wife, Henrietta, and their four children.
