Two Sisters by William-Adolphe Bouguereau
Siblings are your brothers and sisters. They are people who share one or both parents with you. Having siblings can be a lot of fun. You can play together, learn from each other, and share many experiences as you grow up.
What Kinds of Siblings Are There?
There are a few different ways people can be siblings.
- Full Siblings: These are brothers and sisters who have the same mother and the same father.
- Half Siblings: A half-brother or half-sister shares only one parent with you. This means you have the same mother but different fathers, or the same father but different mothers.
- Step Siblings: You become step siblings when your parent marries someone who already has children. So, you and your step sibling have different birth parents, but your parents are now married to each other.
- Example: If Sarah's mom marries David's dad, then Sarah and David become step siblings.
- Siblings by Breastfeeding: In the Islamic faith, if a baby is breastfed by a woman who is not their birth mother, they can become like siblings to that woman's own children. This happens if the baby is under two years old and has been breastfed at least five times by that woman.
