Halfa is a small, unincorporated community located in Emmet County, Iowa, in the United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county it's in.
History of Halfa
Halfa was officially planned and marked out on a map, a process called "platting," in the year 1899. It was given its name after Wadi Halfa, a place located in Sudan, a country in Africa.
For a time, Halfa had its own post office. This post office opened in 1900, which means people living there could send and receive mail right in their community. However, the post office closed down in 1932.
In 1925, the community of Halfa had a population of 52 people. This gives us an idea of how many people lived there almost a century ago.
