Discovering Clifton Museum Park
Thomas Chandler Haliburton wrote popular stories about a character named "Sam Slick". These stories made him very famous around the world in the 1840s. Because of these stories, the house is sometimes called the "Sam Slick House."
The House's Journey Through Time
The house changed a lot over the years. Thomas Chandler Haliburton added to it while he lived there. After he left, 16 different owners made even more changes until the 1920s.
In 1939, the government of Nova Scotia bought the house. It opened as the Haliburton Memorial Museum in 1940.
What You Can See at the Museum
When Thomas Chandler Haliburton moved to England in 1856, he sold everything in the house. But the museum now has some of his original furniture and items. This includes his writing desk!
Most of these items were given to the museum as gifts when it first opened. Other parts of the museum are filled with furniture and objects from that time period. These "period pieces" help visitors imagine what the house looked like when Haliburton lived there.
Visiting the Park and Museum
The Clifton Museum is open to visitors every year from June 1st to early October. The large park around the museum is 34 acres (about 14 hectares). You can visit this beautiful park all year round.
