Halina Kwiatkowska (born Królikiewiczówna) was a talented Polish actress, teacher, and writer. She was born on April 25, 1921, and passed away on November 12, 2020. She performed in many plays, including The Cherry Orchard at the famous National Stary Theatre in Kraków. She also starred in popular films such as Ashes and Diamonds, The Doll, and And Along Come Tourists.

Halina's Early Life and Family
Halina Kwiatkowska was born in a town called Bochnia in Poland. When she was younger, she went to high school in Wadowice. There, she met Karol Wojtyla, who later became Pope John Paul II.
They remained friends for many years. Halina last saw Pope John Paul II in 2002. He made a special effort to visit her, even though he was not feeling well. Halina Kwiatkowska was married to Tadeusz Kwiatkowski. They got married soon after World War II ended.
Halina Kwiatkowska passed away in Konstancin-Jeziorna, Poland. She was buried in the Rakowicki Cemetery in Kraków.
Halina's Acting Career
Halina Kwiatkowska began her acting journey at the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre. Her very first performance was in a play called Król Duch (King Ghost) in 1941.
During the time when Poland was occupied by the Nazis, Halina and Karol Wojtyla acted together. They performed in a secret theatre called the Rapsodyczny Theatre. This theatre was part of the Polish Underground State.
After the war, Halina worked at the Powszechny Theatre. In 1947, she joined the Kraków Theatre. In 1954, she acted in the play The Cherry Orchard at the National Stary Theatre in Kraków. Overall, she played 64 different roles in theatre shows in Kraków.
Halina Kwiatkowska also starred in nine films. Some of her well-known movies include Ashes and Diamonds (1958), The Doll (1968), and the German film And Along Come Tourists (2007).
Halina as a Teacher and Writer
For about 40 years, Halina Kwiatkowska taught at the State Higher School of Theatre in Kraków. While teaching there, she also wrote two plays with Ewa Otwinowska. These plays were called Ogłoszenie matrymonialne (Marriage Announcement) and Sytuację bez wyjścia (A Situation Without a Way Out).
She also wrote a book titled Porachunki z Pamięcia (Reckoning with Memory). This book won an award in Kraków as the "book of the month." For many years, until 2011, she was in charge of an important court for the Association of Polish Stage Artists (ZASP).
