Halltown, also known as Alanthus, is a small, unincorporated community in Franklin County, Alabama, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the larger county government.

You can find Halltown along Alabama State Route 24. It is located about 4.9 miles (7.9 km) east-northeast of a nearby town called Red Bay.

Discovering Halltown's Past

Halltown likely got its name from a person named John T. Hall. He was the very first postmaster in the community. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office, which is where people send and receive mail.

Before it was called Halltown, this community had a post office that operated under the name Alanthus. This post office was open for many years, from 1881 until 1909.
