Halvard Magne Kausland (born April 25, 1945 – died December 21, 2017) was a talented Norwegian jazz guitarist and composer. He was also a civil servant, meaning he worked in public administration for the government.

Halvard Kausland's Life and Career
Halvard Kausland grew up in Sund. He studied at several colleges and universities in Norway. He worked in public service for many years. One of his important roles was being the chief administrative officer for Vestfold County Municipality. This meant he helped manage the county's daily operations.
His Music Journey
Halvard Kausland was best known for his amazing jazz guitar playing. He played in many bands, including with the famous Norwegian artist Ole Paus. Halvard was also a leader in the music community. From 1997 to 2001, he was the chairman of Norsk jazzforum, an organization for jazz music in Norway. Later, from 2009, he became the chairman of Norsk musikkråd, which is the Norwegian Music Council.
Family Life
From 1966 to 1979, Halvard was married to Grethe Kausland. She was also a well-known Norwegian singer and actress. Even after their marriage ended, Grethe kept the name Kausland. Halvard later married artist Helle Brunvoll. They worked together on music projects. They released three jazz albums: In Our House (2009), Your Song (2012), and Latitude (2015).
Halvard Kausland passed away in Oslo on December 21, 2017, at the age of 72.
