Hamburg was listed in the 1850 U.S. Census as an official town. At that time, its population was 92 people. The census records showed that 46 residents were Black and 46 were White. Of the Black residents, 45 were enslaved, and one was free. This was the only time Hamburg appeared with its own population count in the U.S. Census.
