The Story of Hamoud Boualem
The company's story began with Youssef Hammoud. He was skilled at making different flavors. He settled in Belcourt and created a lemonade called "La Royale." This drink was the very first version of the famous "Hamoud" drink.
"La Royale" was made using carefully chosen lemon essence. It was so good that it won a gold medal at the Paris World Fair. This was a big international exhibition. Over time, "La Royale" won many more gold and silver medals.
New Flavors and Growth
In 1907, a new drink was created. It was called "Victoria" and tasted like apple and caramel. Today, this drink is known as SELECTO. It is a very important part of Algerian culture. Many Algerians feel it represents their country.
In 1920, Youssef's grandson, Boualem Hammoud, took over. He officially registered the company's name. He changed it from "Hamoud & Sons" to "Hamoud Boualem & Cie." The company also moved to Hassiba Ben Bouali Street. This is still where the company's main office is located.
Hamoud Boualem also launched a lemon drink called "Slim." Its slogan was "Slim, the lemon that wins!" Today, the Slim brand has five different flavors. These include lemon, orange, green apple, pineapple, and bitter. The Hamoud and Hafiz families joined together to help the company grow.
Modern Times
In 2003, Hamoud Boualem updated its factories. They started using modern machines. They also began selling drinks in PET bottles. These are plastic bottles, which were a new option for customers. Before this, drinks mainly came in glass bottles that could be returned.
The company also started selling its drinks to more countries. This helped them reach new customers around the world.
To make even more drinks, Hamoud Boualem opened a new factory. This factory is in Boufarik, a town in Algeria. The new factory helps them meet the growing demand for their popular drinks.
In 2017, Hamoud Boualem started selling its drinks in cans. This gave the brand a fresh and modern look. In 2018, they launched a new line of drinks called "Lim ON." These drinks have carbonated fruit juices. They come in three flavors: Citrus, Orange pulp, and Mojito.
In 2020, they introduced new sizes for their PET plastic bottles. They launched 33cl and 1-liter bottles.
