About Hampton Island
Hampton Island is the most southern island in a group called the Cole Islands. These islands are also part of a National Park, which means they are protected.
Location and Size
You can find Hampton Island about 100 kilometers (about 62 miles) south-east of Cape Melville, in Queensland. The island is quite small. It covers an area of about 28 hectares. That's the same as 0.28 square kilometers. To give you an idea, 28 hectares is roughly the size of 28 international rugby fields!
Part of the Great Barrier Reef
Being part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park means Hampton Island is surrounded by incredible coral reefs. These reefs are home to many different kinds of fish and other sea creatures. The park helps to protect this special underwater world.
